Our Healthy Community
Partnership Community Report Card 2006 Many of us would assume that genetics play an over-whelming role in our health. However, 60% of what contributes towards one's health are factors that include lifestyle behavior, social. and environmental factors. Behaviors lead the way comprising 40% of what contributes to one's health. In Douglas County,. the six leading causes of death in 2004, were cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, accidents, and diabetes. Many of these causes of death are costly to our community. By 1) practicing healthier lifestyles and 2) creating environments which support healthy lifestyles, our odds of falling victim to many of the leading causes of death are reduced. By working together to create healthier places, we create healthier people. This report is intended to provide useful information for creating the environments necessary for optimal health status.
